AABIP Research Studio - Investigator Development

Investigator development at the AABIP meeting aims to foster research growth by connecting junior faculty with established leaders in interventional pulmonology. The Research Studio provides a structured platform where early-career investigators can present their research projects, receive constructive feedback from experienced mentors, and engage in networking opportunities to refine their ideas and advance their academic careers.  This year we will focus on AABIP grant applicants and review the grants that may be funded in the next application cycle.

Central Airway Obstruction

This session explores real-world case scenarios in the diagnosis and management of central airway obstruction. Topics may include tumor-related airway compromise, techniques for endobronchial debulking, thermal and cryoablation, airway stent placement, and indications for tracheostomy. Faculty will highlight multidisciplinary decision-making, with a focus on practical approaches to restoring and maintaining airway patency in both malignant and benign conditions.

Ask the Expert: My Case, Your Experience – Pleural Disease

This session delves into the diagnosis and management of pleural diseases through interactive case-based discussions. Topics may include malignant and benign pleural effusions, pneumothorax, persistent air leaks, pleural infections, and procedural interventions such as pleural biopsy, tunneled drains, and pleurodesis. Faculty will also address complication management and evolving approaches to pleural disease!

Ask the Expert: My Case, Your Experience – Peripheral Bronchoscopy

Through case-based discussions, this session will explore advanced techniques in peripheral bronchoscopy, emphasizing ventilation strategies, the use of adjuvant imaging such as cone-beam CT and radial EBUS, and the selection of biopsy tools for optimal tissue acquisition. The session may also cover the integration of bronchoscopic ablation for lung nodules, with practical insights into procedural planning, complication management, and evolving therapeutic workflows.
